CONFIG.CTL Format Error
The CONFIG.CTL file is not the proper version 2.3 format. If you
have not converted it from a previous version you should run
CEDIT and update your configuration to version 2.3.
If your system has been updated to version 2.3 then your CEDIT
configuration file CONFIG.CTL has been corrupted and you will
have to restore it from a backup.
More Messages Exist Than CEDIT Allows
You have more messages in your message base than you have allowed
in CEDIT on the MESSAGE BOARD OPTIONS screen's maximum message
count. MFSQZ allocated memory based on the CEDIT limit and has no
table space left. You must raise the limit in CEDIT in order to
be able to run MFSQZ with this message base.
When you exit this dialog box MFSQZ will terminate operation.
Review Message Header
This screen allows you to view and modify message headers. You
selected the class of headers you wanted to view when you entered
this screen. You have the following capabilities from here:
1 - Toggle the message status flags shown in the upper right
panel. Either click the radio button with your mouse or
press the highlighted letter key to toggle the flag.
2 - Move to another header. You can use Page Up and Page Down to
move sequentially through the headers. If the header you
are viewing is part of a reply chain, up to three

extra buttons will appear below the header text.
The [Blink] indicates the message sequentially prior to this
one on the message chain. The [Reply to] indicates the
message this one is a reply to. The [Flink] indicates the
next message sequentially forward on the message chain. If
there is no [Blink] this is the first message in the chain.
If there is no [Flink] this is the last message in the chain.
You may either click the buttons to follow the chain, use
the indicated keys, or the left, up, and right arrow keys.

3 - You may view the text of the message you are on. Either
click the "show Text" key or press the letter T.
4 - You may export only the text of the message to a file. Press
the X key or click on "eXport text".
5 - You may import replacement text for this message. Press the
I key or click on "Import text".
6 - You may archive the message or its entire chain to disk.

asked if you want to archive only this message or its entire
message chain. You will be asked for an archive file name
if this is the first archive request in this review. All

standard boards or e-mail if you wish with this command.

8 - You may go directly to a message number you choose. To do so,
click on "Go to msg #" or press the G key. You will be asked

You are using the TBBS Message File Squeeze/Editor Version 2.3.
This is the program you use to maintain the message base files.
The F1 help key is fully context sensitive. Use it at any field
or dialog box to obtain information on that item.
This program allows mouse control of all of its features. All
status line indicators are "mouse active" as are all edit fields,
menu items, action line entries, and dialog box buttons.
To edit the message base you should select "Review".
To squeeze the message base select "File" then "Squeeze".

Squeeze the Message Base
This command will squeeze messages from the message base. If you
have set up the configuration (Configure menu) it will age the
message base to a pre-determined size as you have selected. It
will also renumber the message base and update all userlog
pointers if you ask to do so.
After the squeeze is done the files MSG.BAK and MSGHDR.BAK will
hold a snapshot of the message base as of this squeeze.
Renumber Messages
This command will perform a renumbering of the message base. If
you have set up the configuration (Configure menu) it will
renumber beginning with the message number you configured.
When you renumber the message base, all messages on the system
will be contiguously numbered without any "holes" (which occur
when messages are deleted).
Rolloff Messages
This command will perform the rolloff and mark the messages
deleted according to the configuration you have programmed with
the Configure menu. This allows you to review the results
of the rolloff and decide if you want to un-delete any messages
which were automatically deleted before you run the squeeze.
Running this command will inhibit squeeze from doing the
rolloff again, allowing any edits you do to "stick".
Quit the MFSQZ Program
This option will exit the Message File Squeeze/Editor. All
files will be closed and saved as they are now.
Review All Msgs in System
This option allows you to review all of the messages in the
system one at a time. You will be able to view them, change
the parameters of the message, or archive the messages to
disk selectively.
Review All Msgs on a Board
This option allows you to review all of the messages on one
message board of your choice. You will be able to view them,
change the parameters of the message, or archive the messages
to disk selectively.
Review All Deleted Msgs
This option allows you to review the messages which are marked
for deletion. You will be able to un-delete them if you wish.
Review All Received Msgs
This option allows you to review all of the messages which have
been read by their addressee. You will be able to view them,
change the parameters of the message, or archive the messages
to disk selectively.
Review All Cubbyholed Msgs
This option allows you to review all of the messages which have
been placed in cubbyholes. You will be able to view them, change
the parameters of the message, or archive the messages to disk
selectively.
Print All Msgs in System
This option allows you to print all of the messages in the
system. You will be able to select a starting point and you
can output the results to either the printer or a disk file.
Print All Msgs on a Board
This option allows you to print all of the messages on one
message board of your choice. You will be able to select a
starting point and you can output the results to either the
printer or a disk file.
Print All Deleted Msgs
This option allows you to print the messages which are marked
for deletion. You will be able to select a starting point and
you can output the results to either the printer or a disk file.
Print All Received Msgs
This option allows you to print all of the messages which have

Configure System Age/Count
This option lets you set the maximum number of messages you wish
to remain in your system. It also lets you set a number of days
that messages of any type may remain.
Configure Msg Board Age/Count
This option lets you set the maximum number of messages you wish
to remain on each standard or e-mail type message board. You
can set the maximum number of messages as well as a maximum
number of days to expiration.
Configure Topic Age/Count
This option lets you set the maximum number of messages you wish
to remain on each topic defined in your system. You can set the
maximum number of messages as well as a maximum number of days
to expiration.
Configure Received Email Age/Count
This option lets you set the maximum number of messages you wish
to remain in e-mail after they have been read by their recipient.
You can set a total count and/or a number of days to expire.
Configure Cubbyhole Age/Count
This option lets you set the maximum number of messages you wish
to allow to remain in cubbyholes after they have been deleted
from their normal message areas. You can set either a total
count (system wide) or a number of days to expiration.
Configure Renumber Start
This option allows you to tell MFSQZ what message number to start
numbering from when the renumber option is selected.
Configure File Paths
This option lets you select where MFSQZ will place its backup and
work files on your disk system.
